Colonel Cathcart

Colonel Chuck Cathcart is ruthless in his hopes to move up in rank. He continuously moves up the number of missions that the men need to fly. As a result he is despised by the majority of characters. In the end he makes a deal with Yossarian to cover up all the wrongs he has done.

Physical Traits: Colonel Cathcart is described as a “slick, successful, slipshod, unhappy man of thirty-six who lumbered when he walked. He was dashing and dejected, poised and chagrined.” He is gaining weight and is described as handsome and unattractive.

Further Analysis of Colonel Cathcart: Colonel Cathcart displays the corruption within the military. Colonel Cathcart moves up the number of missions multiple times with a lack of focus on his soldiers’ lives. Heller is showing how flawed Colonels and Generals are within the military.
